The PopUp Business School comes to West Auckland - 13th to 24th August 2018
The ground-breaking PopUp Business School Aotearoa is coming to West Auckland Trusts Arena, bringing their ten-day business start-up course from the 13th to 24th August, and there are limited free spaces available for budding West Auckland entrepreneurs of all ages.
This unique business starter course has gained huge recognition since making its New Zealand debut in 2017. Wellington business consultant and ex-pat returnee Tony Henderson-Newport witnessed the impact it was making in the UK, and told West, "The PopUp Business School has been running for seven years in the UK and seeing the difference it made there I was empowered to bring the business to New Zealand to give people and communities a chance to grow and thrive".
Henderson-Newport and the PopUp team are tapping into a large pool of entrepreneurial talent lying unfulfilled across many New Zealand communities; "Running your own business can change lives, which is why we brought the PopUp Business School to Aoteroa", he says.
The course is perfect for those who would like to be in business for themselves but have wondered how they can make it happen - this programme will provide the answers and it’s free.
The course includes twenty workshops over the ten days and among other things will show attendees how to get started, how to do things like build a website, learn about tax and crucially, negotiation skills so attendees come away knowing how to sell and price their products and/or services. Throughout the ten days the course aims to build confidence, motivation, and enthusiasm among attendees and prepare them for their entrepreneurial journey.
Attendees don’t need to have studied business at college for the ten-day action-packed course, just bring their idea and enthusiasm to learn some valuable and genuinely life-changing skills that will energise people to build sustainable and profitable businesses of their own.
Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Shane Henderson is backing the event and told West, “The Pop-Up Business School will drive job creation and growth in the West. We are proud to be supporting this opportunity for people to get started in business, to gain skills and knowledge from the best, among proud Westies. Those taking part will learn what it takes to start, maintain and grow a business."
Fender Maeva, a Youth worker with Waipareira trust believes the course is tailor-made for West Auckland Maori, "Many of our Whanau have the ideas and drive but they lack confidence in making the leap into starting their own business”.
The PopUp Business School is open to all ages and encourages participation from Maori and those from underprivileged backgrounds.
Tony Henderson-Newport’s dream is to inspire and empower people to be able to have the confidence to run businesses, successfully. A real point of difference between what the PopUp Business School team bring is their passion and practicality throughout what is a dynamic ten-day workshop, to help entrepreneurs build their businesses and make money while having fun.
Local Board Chair Shane Henderson believes that the event is a real opportunity for prospective West Auckland business owners, "This will be huge for our community. We hope to attract and retain business talent here, so Westies can shop and work locally with great businesses supporting their local town. It’s an exciting time, and I’d encourage anyone that is interested to get along and get amongst it.”
The Henderson-Massey area has one of Auckland's highest rates of business growth but also low rates of local employment, and Henderson believes that business people already regard West Auckland as a great place to do business in, which can only be helped by a new wave of local business talent coming through because of initiatives like the Pop-Up Business School.
The PopUp Business School is supported locally by the Henderson Massey Local board and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED). Other partners are the Ministry of Social Development and Xero.
If you are a Westie and have ever wondered what you need to do to start your own business, you should register now. Opportunities to be part of a vibrant business start-up community and gain real-world knowledge from people that have walked and talked it are rare indeed.
